CONFERENCE ON THE STATE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN AFRICA (COSAA) 2023

March 16^th– 17^th, 2023; Nairobi, Kenya

The Center for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) invites AI researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers, data practitioners, policymakers, and business leaders to the Conference on the State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa (COSAA). The conference will take place at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya from March 16 to March 17, 2023. Conference activities and sessions will be streamed online for a global audience.

COSAA 2023 will be an interdisciplinary gathering of AI and data stakeholders from the business community, ICT, academia, legal, policy, and regulatory fields, and civil society for a two – day event of inspiring keynote addresses, thought-provoking panels, and limitless high-value networking. The primary goal of COSAA is to broaden research and innovations in AI in Africa by promoting the exchange of ideas among attendees. COSAA 2023 will investigate the vibrant emerging AI ecosystem on the African continent. On two stages and various interactive formats, conference speakers will cover the following topics:

Practical AI: AI use and impact in the health, agriculture, legal, and creative fields in Africa
AI and Data: Privacy and surveillance concerns and mitigation measures
Responsible AI: Policies, laws, and frameworks
AI and Innovation: Infrastructure, capacity, and data

The conference will also include an exhibition floor to showcase next – generation AI technologies developed on the African continent to solve the continent’s unique challenges. This will offer attendees the chance to explore and discover the practical and successful implementation of AI & Big Data in driving forward the continent’s development goals.

Call for Posters / Exhibitions

Call for Posters / Exhibitions: Conference on the State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa (COSAA) 2023

The Center for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) invites innovators and researchers to present posters and technological innovations at the Conference on the State of Artificial Intelligence in Africa (COSAA) 2023. COSAA 2023 is an interdisciplinary gathering of AI stakeholders from the business community, ICT, academia, legal, policy, and regulatory fields, and civil society for a two – day event of inspiring keynote addresses, thought-provoking panels, exhibitions of next-generation AI technologies, and limitless high-value networking. The conference will take place at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya from March 16 to March 17, 2023. The working language of the conference will be English.

The posters and exhibitions present an opportunity to highlight and demonstrate innovative AI technologies within Sub-Saharan Africa. Accepted posters and exhibition ideas will be displayed in the conference venue including a designated poster/exhibition session, providing presenters an opportunity to engage in discussion with other attendees.

Innovators and Researchers are kindly invited to submit their poster / exhibition proposal per the schedule below:

Important dates

Submission deadline : 15^th January, 2023

Acceptance notification: 15^th February, 2023

Conference date: 16^th-17^th March 2023

Exhibitions Submission Guidelines

Innovators are required to submit a descriptive summary of the innovation. The summary should be a maximum of one page, clearly describing the innovation and its contribution to solving the most pressing problems on the African continent. The format should be as follows:

Name of the innovation
Functionality of the innovation
Status of the innovation

Poster Submission Guidelines

Researchers are required to submit a poster proposal. The proposal should be a minimum of five pages. The format should be as follows:

Statement of Topic: A short title.
Abstract (Description): The abstract is a short description of your poster.
Purpose — What was the intent or goal of the study? What did you want to learn?
Background/Significance — What was the problem and why was it important? What knowledge are you building on
