CALL FOR DATA PROTECTION FELLOWS
The Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) is an evidence-based research and training centre housed under Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. Our mission is to study, create, and share knowledge on the development of intellectual property and information technology, especially as they contribute to African law and human rights. Our multidisciplinary team, drawn from law, political science, computer science, and development, uses diverse methodological approaches to inform debates on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications and regulation and educate and influence relevant stakeholders on attendant Intellectual Property (IP) policies.
DATA GOVERNANCE CENTRE FELLOWSHIP
Description: The CIPIT Data Governance Centre Fellowship Program was created to encourage and enable research and scholarship in the field of data protection and privacy. Some of the past work from the Data Governance Centre include:

CIPIT invites applications for a six-month fellowship at the Data Governance Centre in 2024. The research area of interest for the call centers around privacy and data protection, with a focus on the gendered impact of these issues, from an African perspective. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the legal scholarship in the field, submitting a journal paper on the approved project and convening a webinar to disseminate project findings. Applicants with a background in law, public policy, political science, data governance and/or information technology are encouraged to apply. Previous research, coursework or experience in privacy law, data protection, information technology, political science, or cybersecurity may be useful. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, permanent residents or be authorized to work in Kenya.
The 6-month fellowship will begin orientation in February and will end at the end of July 2024.
Key attributes of the Fellow

Master’s degree with relevant solid experience (exceptional undergraduate candidates will also be considered).

Interest in IT, AI and IP law, and policy.

Background in law, public policy, political science, data governance and/or information technology

Location: Remote with two physical research seminars and a webinar.
