Data Protection Course
The Data Protection Course by CIPIT is an online programme designed to introduce participants to data protection concepts and practical compliance requirements, with a particular focus on Kenya’s Data Protection Act (DPA) and its application to businesses and organisations.
As of January 2026, CIPIT has successfully trained eight cohorts, with over eight thousand participants completing the course. The programme has supported career growth and professional development, equipping participants with skills relevant to data governance, compliance, and data protection roles across sectors.
The course aims to:

Introduce participants to key concepts and terminology used in data protection laws globally.

Provide an in-depth understanding of the legal basis, scope, and application of Kenya’s Data Protection Act.

Prepare participants to implement and comply with the technical and organisational measures required under the Data Protection Act.

Equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to serve as, or support the work of, a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
Course Structure
Module I is an introduction to the legal basis for data protection, as well as legal issues such as the data protection principles, grounds for data processing and the data protection actors and their various roles.
Module II builds on the legal issues by taking participants through technical and organisational issues that would be required under the Data Protection Act.
Module III takes participants through the role and functions of a data protection officer.

AI and IP Training
The Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property training offered by CIPIT is a half-day, interactive session designed to equip participants with a practical understanding of how AI intersects with IP law, including the challenges and opportunities that arise. The training explores emerging legal issues, regulatory considerations, and real-world applications affecting creators, developers, and legal practitioners in the AI space.
