The Future of Work in Africa: Providing Digital Skills to the African Labor Force for the Digital Economy

The World Economic Forum Report estimates that by 2030, 70% of the wealth generated in the world will be through digital platforms. The digital economy is, therefore, vital to Africa’s growth and development. There are certain prerequisites, however, that have to be met for the digital economy to flourish: a robust digital infrastructure; adequate digital skills; a healthy research and development sector, and cultivation of digital culture. Education and digital skills development are held to be critical tools to develop the workforce for effective integration into the digital economy. The ability to re- skill or up-skill, currently, mirrors broader digital divide trends, where low-income communities with limited capabilities have fewer opportunities to gain the skills needed to successfully navigate the rapidly transforming digital economy. Bearing this, this webinar seeks to discuss and explore how African states should re-skill or up-skill their workforce in order for them to successfully participate and navigate the emerging digital economy.
